Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire an Inspector
who has taken the national test?
Since Michigan does not require any licensing or
certification for Home Inspectors, anyone can call
themselves an inspector. By hiring one who has passed the
national test, you know they have knowledge about all
aspects of a residential property.
Why does an inspection take so
long?
In order to thoroughly inspect all visible and accessible
aspects of a home and property, 2-3 hours is required. This
allows the inspector time to take a good close look at
everything, as well as provide explanations and answer
questions for the client.
If I’m not buying or selling a
home, why would I want to hire an inspection?
For the same reason that many people go to their Doctor for
an annual check-up, or get a tune-up for a vehicle that is
running smoothly, it is also important to check how well
your home and its components are aging. Finding out about a
potential issue early on can save the homeowner thousands of
dollars. It can also help the homeowner in prioritizing
projects around the house.
A friend/brother/neighbor of mine
is a carpenter. Can’t I just have him look at the house for
me?
You could, however specialized inspection training and
experience allows a certified inspector to look for, notice,
and evaluate items not necessarily apparent to others.
